Improve Results of Active Release Technique with Doctor Hoy's

Doctor Hoy's Blog Physical Therapy or Chiropractic

“I visited the office on a whim and without any expectation that you would be able to remedy what other doctors and physical therapists had not. For months I had lived in pain and was nervously anticipating the prospect of surgery.”

Michael Andrews

Michael represents the experience of many individuals suffering from problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. 75% of the population has soft tissue injuries, such as headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow. However, these injuries are often difficult to diagnose and treat.

Dr. P Michael Leahy developed a movement based massage technique, called Active Release Technique (ART), to successfully diagnose and treat individuals with soft tissue injuries. Countless patients finally found relief after searching fruitlessly elsewhere.

WHAT IS ART?

Soft tissue injuries can occur on the job, while playing sports, or during normal everyday activities. Stiffness, discomfort, pain, swelling, and weakness are symptoms of damage to the soft tissue. This involves acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc.), accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma), or lack of oxygen (hypoxia). In response, the body produces dense scar tissue in the affected area. This can inhibit movement, shorten and weaken muscles, cause tension on tendons, and trap nerves.

Active Release Technique (ART) helps providers locate and release the scar tissue. It resolves the symptoms at the source of the injury.

WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF ART?

Dr. P Michael Leahy studied engineering in the Air Force before becoming a chiropractor in 1984. He combined these two unique specialties to approach soft tissue injuries from a new perspective. Dr. Leahy developed Active Release Technique (ART) while working with elite athletes. His purpose was to treat injuries and return athletes to peak performance as quickly as possible.

WHAT IS TREATMENT LIKE?

Specially certified therapists use Active Release Technique (ART) to both examine and treat soft tissue injuries. Machines cannot detect this, making x-ray or MRI ineffective. However, scar tissue changes the texture and tension of the soft tissue, which can be perceived by the trained hand.

First, the provider will evaluate the texture, tightness, and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. Then touch is used to treat abnormal tissues by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. The scar tissue breaks down as a result of the practitioner contact combined with the movement of the patient.

Dr. Tarkanyi, chiropractor and certified ART therapist, shares his experience treating a patient. “The patient had been struggling for years with a painful elbow. It was classic “tennis elbow.” He had done physical therapy, steroid injection, and tons of over-the-counter meds without much success and thousands of dollars spent. He finally came to me after reading about ART online and decided to give it a try. My evaluation revealed that he certainly had a bad elbow, but also had a great deal of shoulder dysfunction that was driving the inflammation in the elbow.   I worked on him for about six visits over a two-week period.   I fixed the shoulder dysfunction and the elbow pain. He is a client for life.”

HOW DOES DOCTOR HOY’S® COMPLIMENT ART?

The powerful blend of therapeutic ingredients in Doctor Hoy's products compliments Active Release Technique (ART). Apply a layer of Arnica Boost Recovery Cream and Pain Relief Gel before ART to jumpstart the process of relaxing muscles, reducing inflammation, and increasing circulation. It can be uncomfortable to manipulate these sensitive injuries. Doctor Hoy's natural pain relief helps with discomfort during and after ART.

“I wanted to share my gratitude for the therapy performed on my injured shoulder. I was surprised and thrilled that you were able to get extraordinary results in only seven visits. After working with you, my shoulder is now fully functioning and pain free! I owe you a big thanks.”
